Womenvai is granted consultative status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

In a significant stride toward gender equality and women’s empowerment, WomenVai, the global organization dedicated to championing women’s rights, has been granted consultative status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This new milestone positions WomenVai as an influential advocate for women’s issues at the international level.

The decision to grant ECOSOC special consultative status to WomenVai was made on 7 June 2023. ECOSOC, as one of the principal organs of the United Nations, plays a vital role in advancing social and economic development worldwide. With consultative status, WomenVai will have the opportunity to actively participate in ECOSOC’s work, contributing valuable insights, expertise, and perspectives on issues affecting women globally.

ECOSOC consultative status for Womenvai means more gender neutrality in STEM

Established in 2015, WomenVai has rapidly grown into a powerful platform for promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. The organization’s mission centers on amplifying women’s voices, driving policy change, and fostering inclusive societies that recognize and value women’s contributions. WomenVai has been instrumental in addressing critical issues such as underrepresentation of women in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

The attainment of ECOSOC consultative status represents a significant boost for WomenVai’s efforts. It grants the organization the ability to engage with ECOSOC’s vast network of member states, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other stakeholders involved in shaping global policies. This newfound recognition will enable WomenVai to advocate for women’s rights and gender equality on a much broader scale, ensuring that the voices of women from all walks of life are heard and their needs are addressed.

Upon receiving the news, WomenVai’s founder and Executive Director, Yvette Ramos, expressed her gratitude and excitement. She emphasized the organization’s determination to seize this opportunity to make a lasting impact on gender equality. Yvette Ramos stated, « We are thrilled to be granted ECOSOC consultative status, as it will allow us to advocate for women’s rights at the highest level. This achievement belongs to every woman who has fought tirelessly for gender equality. »

As WomenVai assumes its new role as an ECOSOC-accredited organization, it joins a select group of NGOs entrusted with the responsibility of shaping global policies. This accomplishment reaffirms the importance of collective efforts in creating a more equitable and inclusive world. With its influential voice and unwavering commitment, WomenVai is poised to drive transformative change, advancing women’s rights and dismantling the barriers that hinder gender equality.

The granting of ECOSOC consultative status to WomenVai stands as a testament to the growing recognition of the critical role women play in shaping societies. It serves as a reminder that empowering women is not just a matter of justice but also a catalyst for social progress and sustainable development. With WomenVai’s enhanced platform and strengthened partnership with ECOSOC, the path toward a more gender-equal world takes a significant leap forward.
